New Restaurant Leadership Academy Launches to Fill Gaps in Culinary Business Training
Excelling at crafting incredible dishes doesn’t automatically translate to being an exceptional business leader for a food service operation. That gap between hands-on culinary skill and strategic leadership expertise is exactly why American Express and Resy have launched a new national leadership academy, built specifically to help restaurant owners and managers strengthen their teams, boost profit margins, and navigate the growing complexities of the modern restaurant industry.
Unveiled this Monday, the new Restaurant Academy is being developed in formal partnership with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The immersive program will bring together 30 restaurant leaders from across the United States for a four-month leadership development curriculum, set to kick off later this fall.
The launch comes at a moment when restaurant operators face overlapping pressure from nearly every direction. Wholesale food costs remain persistently elevated, labor shortages continue to plague most regional markets, and diners are growing increasingly selective about how they spend their discretionary dining-out budgets. For many independent restaurant brands, success depends just as much on skilled people management and strategic financial planning as it does on serving high-quality, memorable food.
While traditional culinary schools train aspiring chefs to master cooking techniques and menu development, there are far fewer structured learning opportunities for restaurant owners and managers to build the core business skills required to run a sustainable, successful operation.
